All of the time everywhere. If they read it, they’ll mispronounce it. If they hear it, they’ll misspell it. My children are getting names that can at the very least be read->pronounced in Dutch, English, French and Spanish.

ah fuck… let’s try to make this short at least?
locally, a lot of people seem to be completely clueless about spelling “ITALO”, so they go “YTALO”, “HITALO” (since the h is silent in spanish!) or whatever. “ROSSI” can go: “ROSI”, “ROSY” or even “ROSSY”… have you ever read any name spelled like that? I don’t think so. start making sense. the absolute worst is when they don’t hear my name properly and go all kinds of stuff: quintalo, picaro, icaro to absolute extreme versions like PETER, MIGUELON (like miguel but larger?) and the all time winner “TITO LA ROSA”. the fuck?
people in english don’t seem to have a problem with spelling it, but they take a while to get it… if they read it first and then call me out, it’s “it-A-lo” (accentuating the A), so I have to go “it’s like saying italy but with an o”… and then it’s all good.
tl;dr

:/
